Lorenzo
Galli

Computer Scientist & Sports Technology Student-Athlete

Student and athlete by day, developer by... also day. I build software, apps and algorithms that turn raw athletic data into insights, helping athletes and teams run faster, jump farther and stay healthier. I'm passionate about biomechanics and sports analytics, and I'm working to combine them to elevate the sporting experience and improve performance.

about-lorenzo.mdtyping…

Hi, I'm Lorenzo, a computer scientist and a track and field athlete, and most days I can't tell where one ends and the other begins. I grew up on the track in a small town near Pisa, where I started running at six. Along the way I picked up a laptop, a camera and a question: what could the data behind the raw art of sprinting tell us, if we only knew how to read it? I earned my BSc in Computer Science at the University of Pisa in two years and ten months as a dual-career student-athlete, with an exchange year at USI Lugano after winning a scholarship. There I taught "Introduction to Sport Analytics" and started building the tools I wished I had as an athlete, some of which went on to win awards. Now I'm in Stockholm pursuing the MSc in Sports Technology at KTH, one of 36 admitted students on a programme unique in Europe that brings together sport, health, engineering and computer science. Meanwhile, I still compete in the 100m, 200m and long jump. What's next? Anything that brings sport and technology together. I still believe that sport is a synonym for peace.
